information for volunteers
We typically require a minimum of 1 hour and can schedule you for up to 5 hours. However, we want you to be able to enjoy the festival too. Our scheduling is very flexible.
The festival will take place on Douglas Avenue between 6th Street and Main Street and on 5th Street between Duff Avenue and Kellogg Avenue.
The festival will not be canceled because of rain or snow. This is an outdoor event, so be prepared for any type of weather. We recommend dressing in layers and bringing sunscreen, an umbrella and a water bottle.
Age requirements are based on the task. Many of our tasks require volunteers who are at least 18, but we do have opportunities for those younger than 18 to get involved.
All volunteers will receive an Ames Pridefest volunteer t-shirt when checking in for their shift. The volunteer t-shirt must be worn during your shift. We also recommend wearing comfortable shoes.
drug and alcohol policy
Any volunteer appearing to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol will be asked to leave the festival. Ames Pridefest is a substance-free event.
transportation and parking
We're unable to provide transportation to and from the event. However, CyRide has multiple routes that pass close to the festival grounds including 1 Red, 2 Green and 5 Yellow. Check out CyRide.com for more information. Downtown Ames has metered parking on Saturdays. Check out their interactive parking map for more information.
While previous volunteering experience isn't necessary, it is certainly helpful. As long as you are friendly, coachable and a team-player, we'd love to have you join our volunteer crew.
community service hours
Volunteering for Ames Pride is a great way to earn community service hours for your organization. Please let us know if you need any documentation verifying your volunteer time.
You will receive an automatic email after filling out our volunteer form to confirm that we received your form. We will also email you the week of Pridefest with your scheduled time and duties. If you have any special circumstances or need to withdraw from volunteering, please let us know as early as possible. We want to ensure Ames Pridefest is a positive experience for everyone and that goes for our volunteer crew too.
While full meals will not be provided, we will have snacks and refreshments available in the Board Room for our volunteer crew. For those working longer shifts, we will ensure you have time to eat and rest.
The most important thing you can do for Ames Pride is to show up to your shift on time, ideally 15 minutes early. Once you arrive, check-in at the Board Room inside Ames Public Library on the second floor. You will receive your t-shirt and instructions for your shift.
