Ames Pride was established out of a need to build community for LGBTQIA+ people in Ames, Iowa State University and the surrounding area. We are committed to building relationships within the community and creating bridges with other groups in the Ames area.
We are a community of volunteers who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, asexual, aromantic, or otherwise non-heterosexual, non-cisgender, as well as heterosexual and cisgender allies. We strive to do work that promotes community building among LGBTQIA+ people, to educate the community on issues affecting LGBTQIA+ people, and to facilitate an environment that values the intersectional identities of all people living in and around the City of Ames, IA.
We are committed to maintaining a community that recognizes and values the inherent worth and dignity of every person; that fosters mutual respect among its directors and volunteers; that encourages each individual to reach their own potential; and that builds momentum for the equitable treatment of people.
