Trinity. They/Them. Bachelor's degree. Wants to be the queer cousin who sporadically gives hit or miss advice.
Trinity says, "I am a queer and trans person of color and I also advocate for my mental health issues as well--primarily to normalize discussing mental health. For me, independence is about living your most authentic life and growing into who you want to be as a person. Independence is not about being alone." Come meet your newest queer cousin and hear about their thoughts and experiences with independence. All are welcome - adult themes and language may be a part of our discussion. |
August 5 | SUpport Systems panel
The Support Systems Panel provides an opportunity for supporters of trans people to learn and hear stories from their fellow community members.
Hear personal stories of how family or other support networks of people with diverse gender identities support their loved ones. This casual panel will provide a great opportunity to connect with other caregivers. |

"It is an ongoing political process to live your fat queer brown body." -- Sonalee Rashatwar, The Fat Sex Therapist Join us on Thursday, August 6 at 7pm to hear BIPOC fat activists Ady Del Valle, Joi Latson, Miguel M Morales, and Sonalee Rashatwar share their experiences with race, queerness, and bodies in conversation with one another. |

august 29 | Storytelling project: New beginnings with rita mookerjee
Join Rita as she shares her story of navigating academia as a loud-mouthed, pissed-off, queer woman of color. She’ll share anecdotes and lessons learned as she chronicles her whirlwind first year as a professor. Topics will include education in the time of Trump, the evils of white feminism, the myth of “professionalism,” being the token minority, and what to do when life turns your plans upside down. Bring your burning questions and your friends.

September 10 | Woke White Activists in REcovery presented by reyma mccoy mcdeid
How do we step outside our silos to ensure our activism is intersectional? Reyma McCoy McDeid will share her experiences as an activist and offer advice for ensuring that the activism we engage in is serving as many people as possible as we work towards common goals.
Reyma McCoy McDeid is the executive director of Central Iowa Center for Independent Living (winner of the 2018 Organization of the Year award from the Des Moines Civil and Human Rights Commission) and serves as treasurer and Anti-Racism and Equity Taskforce Co-Chair for the National Council on Independent Living. She is the recipient of a 2019 AT&T Humanity of Connection award and her 2018 run for office was endorsed by the Working Families Party, the Asian & Latino Coalition, and Iowa Women for Progressive Change. She is also a single mom. Her work has been featured in Vice, Pantsuit Nation, TIME, USA Today, The Guardian, and The Des Moines Register. After a twenty year career in social services, her vocation has shifted from simply serving marginalized people to addressing how systems creates them in the first place. |

September 26 | Storytelling Project: Education and Labor with shawn Boyne
Attorney Shawn Boyne recounts a childhood of standing up for what's right into standing up for women's and gender rights throughout law school, culminating in a civil protest against a sitting supreme court judge, which might have cost her her California license.

October 10 | Maximum Ames Livestream special
Starting at noon
The programming will be recorded in a handful of locations around Ames with no live audiences, which will allow producers and artists to observe safe physical distancing and prevent the spread of COVID-19. In addition to music, the Maximum Ames Livestream Special will feature informational content encouraging viewers to vote in the 2020 general election on Nov. 3. |
OCTOBER 24 | STORYTELLING PROJECT: GENDER EXPRESSION, ALTERNATE PERSONAS, AND COMING OUT
Join a conversation with Danika and her partner Lisa, and Lukas and Evan as they share their experiences around Gender Expression, Alternate Personas and/or Coming Out. The couples will reflect on what makes a successful support system, what they wish they had known then, and focus on living authentic, adult lives as or with trans people.
